Tim Carter was a goalkeeper who came through the Rovers youth set-up, before being promoted to the first team squad at the age of seventeen. He went on to make 47 league appearances for Rovers before heading north to Sunderland in 1987.
Tim was found dead on 20 June 2008, reportedly having hanged himself.
During his career he played for ten different teams. While at Rovers he had a loan spell at Newport County before his most to Sunderland. While with the Mackems he had loan periods with Carlisle United, Bristol City and Birmingham City before making the short move to Hartlepool United in 1992. After two years at Victoria Park he was transferred to Millwall and from there he went to Oxford United before returning to Millwall. He ended his playing career at Halifax Town, where he spent the 1998-99 season.
After finishing as a player he moved into coaching and became the Sunderland goalkeeping coach, later being reassigned to their youth setup. He also assisted with coaching the Estonian national team on a part-time basis.
