Thorsten Dinkel is a German midfielder who initially joined Rovers on trial in the summer of 2004. His performances in the pre-season were impressive enough for manager Ian Atkins to reward him with a short term contract, but after having failed to break into the first team he was released on 17 November 2004. On his release, Atkins told the Bristol Rovers club website "Thorsten is a talented midfield player and impressed us enough to earn a short-term contract. Unfortunately for him we are well blessed with midfield players so he has had little opportunity to show us what he could do. We wish him well for the future. He is a nice lad with a good attitude."

Other than his brief stint with Rovers, Thorsten has played in Germany for his whole career. He joined Rovers from SC Waldgirmes, and has also played for SV Bernbach, SF Eisbachtal, FC Schweinfurt 05, VfB Gießen, Viktoria Aschaffenburg, TSV Kreuzwertheim and Eintracht Wetzlar. In the summer of 2008 he signed for Sportfreunde Siegen, to play for them in the Oberliga Nordrhein-Westfalen, the fifth level of football in Germany, before moving to Traiser FC in 2009 and then FSV Braunfels in January 2011.
