Sonny Parker was a defender who spent two and a half years at Rovers, having originally joined on non-contract terms in December 2002. He could play anywhere across the back four and although never a first choice player, made thirty league appearances covering for injuries and suspensions.

Sonny was a youth player at Birmingham City, and was a regular in their reserve side, but following their promotion to the Premier League he found himself surplus to requirements at St Andrews. After his spell at Rovers he dropped out of the professional game.

Following his release from Rovers he returned to his native North-East England to join Gateshead, and although he started the season well, injury restricted his opportunities and he left the club to join Bishop Auckland in December 2005, where he remained until the end of the 2005-06 season. In the summer of 2006 Sonny signed for Horden Colliery Welfare, but his stay was short and he was released at the end of 2006 following the sacking of the Horden manager.
