Ryan Williams is a midfielder who was a Rovers player between 2003 and 2006. He joined from Hull City in October 2003 and left to join Aldershot Town at the beginning of 2006. Although a semi-regular in the Rovers first team, he never managed to establish himself as a first choice player, and he was loaned out to Forest Green Rovers and Aldershot Town before joining the Shots permanently.
Ryan began his footballing career as a trainee with Mansfield Town, where he earned his first professional contract. He was signed by Tranmere Rovers for a fee of £70,000, but failed to make an impact at Prenton Park, playing just five league games in his time in Birkenhead. During the 1999-00 season he was loaned out to Chesterfield, and he impressed enough during his three month spell that the Spireites forked out £85,000. After just over a year with Chesterfield he was signed by Hull City for £150,000. After playing 52 league games for the Tigers, scoring two goals, he was signed by Rovers. He joined Aldershot Town in 2006, and after successfully helping them to gain promotion to the Football League, he left to join Weymouth in the summer of 2008.
Shortly after his arrival at Weymouth, the Terras began to suffer with financial difficulties, resulting in players not being paid after the start of 2009. The entire first team squad were told that they could leave if they wished, and in late February 2009 Ryan began a successful trial spell back at his first club, Mansfield Town, which earned him a contract. He went out on loan to Gainsborough Trinity for two months during the 2010–11 campaign, and later re-joined the club until the end of the season.
