Patrick Baldwin, known as Pat, is a defender who joined Rovers on loan from Colchester United on 20 November 2009 in a deal that ran until 2 January 2010. He made his debut for The Pirates on 21 November 2009 in a 2–1 victory over Gillingham at the Memorial Stadium, and played a total of six games. His final game of the loan spell was a 2–0 defeat at Millwall on 28 December 2009, a match in which he was booked and scored an own goal. He played the full 90 minutes in six of the seven games Rovers played while he was in Bristol, the only one he missed was against his parent club, making him ineligible to take part.

Rovers had hoped to make the signing permanent in the January 2010 transfer window, but after a transfer fee had been agreed with Colchester for his services, Baldwin elected to remain with the Essex club and fight for his place in the team. In spite of this setback Rovers remained hopeful of convincing Baldwin to change his mind and return to Bristol, but on 29 January, three days before transfer deadline day, he joined Southend United on loan until the end of the season.

CareerEdit

Pat started out as a trainee at Chelsea, and spent one year as a professional there during the 2001–02 season. He failed to make any first team appearances during that spell however, and in the summer of 2002 he signed for Colchester United. He had a brief loan spell at St Albans City during the 2003–04 season, but other than that he had only played first team football for Colchester when he joined Rovers on loan in 2009, having made 222 appearances in all competitions for the 'U's up to this point.

He played a further 20 games for Colchester before moving to Southend United, a club that had loaned him two years earlier, during the January 2012 transfer window. He failed to establish himself in the Southend side however, and was loaned out to Exeter City towards the end of the 2011–12 season, joining them on a permanent basis in the summer.
