Despite a steady flow of players from Norway making their way into the English game over the years, only one Norwegian player has ever played for Bristol Rovers. Striker Rune Johansen was signed on loan from Tromsø by Ian Holloway in November 2000, but played just two games without scoring before returning to his parent club.
Goalkeeper Roger Vaaler also spent some time with Rovers during the same season, but never made a single appearance for the first team. No Norwegian international has ever taken the field for Rovers.
A number of former Rovers players have plied their trade in Norway, including Liberian-born Swede Marcus Andreasson, who spent a total of ten seasons playing for Bryne and Molde, and Italian Michele di Piedi, who was loaned to Odd Grenland the season before he played for Rovers.
