A Mr. Nicholls, whose first name is not known, played two Southern League games for Rovers during the 1900–01 season. He did not score any goals, and left the club in 1901.
Two other players with the surname Nicholls played in The Football League for The Pirates, both of whom were goalkeepers. Joe Nicholls signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 1936 and played until 1939, making 112 league appearances, while Ronald Nicholls played 71 league games between 1954 and 1958, as well as racking up 23,607 first-class runs for Gloucestershire CCC.
