Neil Ross is a striker who had a loan spell at Rovers during the 2001-02 season, running from 23 October until 23 November 2001. He joined from First Division Stockport County, for whom he had made three first team appearances before dropping two divisions and coming to The Pirates. While in Bristol he played five Division Three games and one in the Football League Trophy, coming on as a substitute in three of the league games and starting the other matches.
His debut for Rovers came on 23 October 2001, in a 1–0 defeat at Exeter City in the Third Division, coming on as a 66th minute substitute for Simon Bryant. The next game, a 2–1 defeat at home to Plymouth Argyle, saw him moved into the starting lineup for the first time. Former Rovers loanee Martin Phillips, who played two games for The Gas in 1999, scored Plymouth's first goal in that game. Ross made a further four appearances before returning to Stockport when his month-long contract expired having failed to score a single goal.
Neil started his career as a trainee with Leeds United, but failed to make the grade at the Yorkshire club and ended up turning professional with Stockport County in 2000. He was loaned to Rovers after a year with Stockport, but remained with them until January 2003 when he joined Macclesfield Town. He failed to establish himself as a first choice player at Macc and was loaned out to non-league sides Northwich Victoria and Tamworth, before signing for Halifax Town in November 2004.
After again failing to establish himself as a first team regular at Halifax he found himself drifting around a number of non-league clubs. Between 2005 and 2008 he played for Alfreton Town, Bradford Park Avenue, Ossett Town, Ilkeston Town and Buxton. In the summer of 2008 he joined FC Halifax Town, the team that had been formed from the ashes of his now defunct former team Halifax Town, where he remained for a year before joining Brighouse Town in the summer of 2009 and Harrogate Railway Athletic in January 2010.
