Mark Preece is a defender from Bristol who came through the youth system and was given his first professional contract in 2005. He remained in the squad for a year and was sent out to Gloucester City for a loan period, but was released without making any first team appearances for the Pirates. He represented Somerset at under-16 and under-18 levels.
Mark started his career at Bristol Rovers, but never made an impact on the first team. During the 2005-06 season he joined Gloucester City on loan, where he started 14 games and came on as substitute once, scoring a single goal. On his release by Bristol Rovers he joined Forest Green Rovers in 2006, from where he was loaned to Weston-super-Mare for a month in January 2007.
He signed a one-year deal with Mansfield Town in 2010, but an injury suffered during pre-season training kept him on the sidelines for the first few months of the season. His Mansfield career was dealt a second blow when having been sent out on loan to Eastwood Town in September to regain his match fitness he suffered a second injury, this time to his knee, and would require surgery. He made just two appearances for The Badgers, both in the FA Cup. After a spell of recouperation he was sent out on loan a second time when he joined AFC Telford United in March, and it wasn't until April that he finally made his debut for The Stags. He never really had a chance to prove himself in Mansfield though, and a change of management at the club led to him being released at the end of the season.
