Kevin Austin is a defender who spent two years at Rovers, from 2002 until 2004. He was born in England, but was capped by the Trinidad & Tobago national team in 2000.
He joined Rovers on a free transfer from Cambridge United in the summer of 2002, and went on to make 56 league appearances, four of which were from the bench. He also played in five FA Cup games for the Pirates, and didn't score any goals in any competitions. He left the club in 2004 to join Swansea City, again on a free transfer.
Career[]
Kevin started out as playing schoolboy football with Leyton Orient, but failed to make the grade at Brisbane Road and he was released to join non-league side Saffron Walden Town, before a change of heart by Orient enabled him to turn pro with them in 1993. After three years with The Os, during which time he made 109 league appearances, Lincoln City paid £30,000 to bring him to Sincil Bank, where he also spent three years and represented the club 128 times in the league and was their player of the season in 1997-98. He was later voted number 56 in the Imps' top 100 league legends.
He joined Barnsley on a free transfer in 1999, but this was to be a far from successful move, as his time there was blighted by injuries. After only three league appearances for the Tykes, Kevin suffered a serious knee injury which kept him on the sidelines for a year. On his recovery he joined Brentford on loan, and while there he was called up by Trinidad & Tobago for a World Cup qualifying match against Panama. He became injured again during a training session with his national squad, and was released by Barnsley after playing only six games for them in all competitions.
After his release from Barnsley, Kevin joined Cambridge City in summer 2001, but found himself released again after less than a year with the club. He ended the 2001-02 season with Kettering Town, before moving back into the Football League with Rovers that summer.
He was allowed to move to Swansea City from Rovers on a free transfer in 2004, and he went on to play 117 league games for them during his four year stay there. In 2008 he signed a two-year contract with Chesterfield, and after making 54 League appearances he joined Conference National side Darlington in 2010. He had made 15 appearances in the Conference National division by November that year, but fell out of favour and was loaned out to Conference North side Boston United in February for the remainder of the 2010–11 campaign.
