Jerel Ifil was one of a clutch of players who was signed for Rovers on short-term deals by manager Dave Penney during his brief spell in charge late in the 2010–11 season.

He played in the first three of Rovers' fixtures after signing, making his debut in a 1–0 defeat away to Brentford on 26 February 2011, but a red card in his third game saw him pick up a suspension and never regain his place in the side. His only other inclusion in a matchday squad was as an unused substitute against Sheffield Wednesday in the penultimate game of the season. The club opted not to retain his services at the expiry of his deal, and he left the club in the summer having made a total of just three appearances.

Jerel started out as a Watford player, but it took a while for him to earn a place in The Hornets' side, and in fact made his debut in senior football while on loan at Huddersfield Town at the end of the 2001–02 season. He never really established himself as a Watford player, and was taken on loan by Swindon Town three times before they eventually paid a fee of £70,000 to sign him permanently in 2004. He remained with the Wiltshire club for another five years but he left in 2009 to join Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen. Despite featuring regularly for The Dons he agreed a release from his contract with them at the end of the January 2011 transfer window, joining Rovers just over three weeks later.

After his disappointing spell with Rovers he joined Kettering Town in the summer of 2011, signing a two-year deal with the Northamptonshire club, where he linked up with his younger brother Phil. Things didn't go well with the Poppies however, the club suffering financial difficulties that resulted in Jerel's wages not being paid for a period.

He left the club in 2012, and played a single game for Sutton United against Boreham Wood at the beginning of the 2012–13 season. Twelve days later he was playing for Boreham Wood against Tonbridge Angels, and a further game for them followed a fortnight later when he lined up against Bath City.

After a two-month gap without a game, during which he spent some time with Hemel Hempstead Town, he joined Staines Town at the end of November 2012 and spent the remainder of the campaign with them.
