Francis Albert Townrow, known as Frank, spent two seasons with Rovers between 1931 and 1933, playing alongside his brother John Townrow during his second year.
Frank, a former England schoolboy international, began his career with Arsenal, signing his first professional contract with them on 20 April 1921. He spent most of his time with The Gunners playing for their reserves, and made just eight league appearances for their first team during his five-year stint, scoring twice. He moved north to Scotland in 1926 to join Dundee, but returned to England in 1930 when he joined Bristol City. After a single season at Ashton Gate he crossed the city to join Rovers, before ending his playing career with Taunton Town, where he played from 1933 to 1934.
