Alistair Gibb, known as Ali, is a player who can play anywhere down the right side. He joined Rovers on a free transfer from Stockport County on transfer deadline day in March 2004, and spent two full seasons at the club before leaving to join Hartlepool United in 2006. He played 64 games for the Gas, scoring two goals.

Career[]

Ali's first club was Norwich City, where he was a trainee and joined the professional ranks in 1994. He spent one and a half seasons with the Norwich first team squad, but didn't make any league appearances in that time. During this time he had a loan spell with Northampton Town, and he impressed then Cobblers manager Ian Atkins enough to convince him to spend a £30,000 transfer fee to bring him to Sixfields permanently. He spent a further four years at Northampton, making a total of 131 league appearances for the club, before being signed by Stockport County for a fee of £50,000 in February 2000. In four years at Stockport he played 158 league games and scored seven goals.

He signed for Rovers on 25 March 2004, and became a semi-regular first team player, but never really made himself an automatic first choice player. He moved on to Hartlepool United two years later, and from there he was later sent out on loan to Notts County.

After being released by Hartlepool in 2008 Ali decided to give up full-time football at the age of 32 to take up a career in wealth management and financial advice. He signed for Bath City in 2008 to play part-time in the Conference South, but broke his ankle during pre-season training causing him to spend a lengthy spell on the sidelines. After seven months without playing he was sent out on loan to Yate Town in February 2009 in order to regain match fitness, before returning to Bath to make nine league appearances late in the season.

An unsuccessful trial with Newport County marked the start of his post-Bath City career, having been released by them at the end of the 2008–09 season, but he eventually found employment with Hellenic League side Almondsbury Town. He made twelve appearances in all competitions for The Almonds during the 2009–10 season, scoring once.
