He west a first team regular for the next two seasons, but was allowed to leave on a free transfer in 2011 following the club's relegation to League Two in an effort to trim the wage bill, when he moved to Exeter City.
Coles is a native of Bristol, who was a Bristol City player as a youngster. While with the club was charged with being drunk and disorderly in a pub in Newport, Shropshire during a pre-season visit to the area during 2005.
Career[]
Danny began his footballing career as a Bristol City player, with whom he was named Young Player of the Year in the 2002-03 season. He went on to make 148 league appearances for the Robins, scoring six goals. In July 2005 he was signed by Hull City for a fee of £200,000, but after suffering an injury early in his spell at the KC Stadium he struggled to get back in the first team. In October 2007 he joined Hartlepool United on loan for a month, where he played three league games. The following month he joined Rovers, initially on a three-month loan, but in January he made the switch permanent after having played 31 league games for the Tigers.
Following his release from Rovers in 2011 he made a bright start at his new club, Exeter City, playing in 36 games in all competition and scoring twice up to 10 March. The season took a sour twist however when he was involved in a training ground collision with goalkeeper Artur Krysiak, fracturing two vertebrae and forcing him to wear a back brace for over a month.
