Danny Allsopp is a striker who joined Rovers on loan from Manchester City in October 2000. He played six games for the Pirates without scoring, before returning to his parent club a month later.
Danny started his playing career in his native Australia with his home town club Croydon City Arrows in Melbourne, where he was a youth team player. After joining South Melbourne in 1995, he played 20 League games and scored twice in two years, before moving on to another Aussie side, Carlton, in 1997. He went on to play 15 times for Carlton, scoring three times, and he made a further fourteen appearances for Port Melbourne Sharks, scoring nine goals in the process.
He travelled to England in 1998 for a trial with Manchester City, which earned him a contract with the Blues. He didn't set the world alight while at Maine Road however, making just thirty League appearances in two-and-a-half years, and being sent out on loan to Notts County and Wrexham, as well as Rovers. He joined Notts County on loan for a second time in November 2000 in a deal which became permanent a month later, when the Magpies paid £300,000 for his services.
After going on to make over 100 appearances for Notts County he moved on to Hull City in 2003, where he played 64 times in the League and scored 22 goals. He returned to his native Australia in 2005, when he joined Melbourne Victory, and after a spell with Al-Rayyan in 2009 he signed for American side D.C. United in 2010. At the close of the MLS season he returned to Melbourne Victory for the tail end of the 2010–11 season, knocking in 5 goals in his 9 games.
After the 2011–12 season Danny retired from professional football.
