Rovers had a win snatched from their grasp at the last moment by Gillingham in this League Two fixture, thanks to a last-minute equaliser by substitute Dennis Oli, who had only been on the pitch for four minutes when he scored.
Played in the closing stages of the 2011–12 season, The Pirates had little to play for besides pride, sitting comfortably in mid-table well away from both the promotion and relegation positions, Gillingham however were within touching distance of the playoff positions. The Gills were the first to hit the back of the net when Chris Whelpdale gave them the lead after 56 minutes. Just three minutes later substitute Eliot Richards pulled The Gas level, before Mustapha Carayol looked to have won it when he netted after 80 minutes. Oli Headed the final goal home in the last minute, taking a last gasp point on what manager Andy Hessenthaler described as 'the worst pitch [he'd] ever seen at a league club'.
