Rovers' first visit to Valley Parade in almost sixteen years ended in controversial fashion when Bradford scored from the penalty spot in the third minute of added time at the end of the match, earning them a 2–2 draw.

Rovers had taken the lead in the first half when Matt Harrold headed in a Matt Gill cross. Bradford equalised in the second period when Harrold brought down Jamie Devitt in the area and Michael Flynn netted from the resulting penalty kick, but Rovers looked like they had done enough to secure all three points when Eliot Richards celebrated his 20th birthday by hitting a spectacular long-range shot past the keeper with twelve minutes left to play.

Bradford scored a late equaliser however, again scored by Michael Flynn from the penalty spot, and again for a foul on Jamie Devitt, this time awarded for a shirt-pull by Lee Brown. Manager Paul Buckle was disappointed with the decision to award the penalty, later accusing Devitt of diving. Devitt was a central figure throughout the match, not only winning two penalties, but also being the victim of two tackles that earned yellow cards for Byron Anthony and Eliot Richards.
