Anwar Uddin is an English defender of Bangladeshi descent who played for Rovers for two years, from 2002 until 2004. He was signed on a free transfer from Sheffield Wednesday, who were forced to offload players due to financial difficulties, and made nineteen league appearances for Rovers before leaving the club in the summer of 2004 to join Dagenham & Redbridge.

Prior to him leaving Rovers he had loan spells at Hereford United and Telford United.

CareerEdit

Anwar's first senior club was West Ham United, but after failing to break into the first team there he moved to Sheffield Wednesday at the end of February 2002. Wednesday's money troubles saw Uddin leave the club only a few months later to join Rovers, with whom he made his senior debut. After loan spells at Hereford United and Telford United he moved to Dagenham & Redbridge in 2004, he has remained ever since, becoming the club captain. When the Daggers were promoted from the Conference in 2007 he became the first British Asian to captain a side in the Football League.

First team appearances for Dagenham & Redbridge became fewer and further between during the 2008–09 season, and after failing to play a single game in August 2009 he was loaned out to Grays Athletic. After returning from loan, having played eleven games in the Conference, Uddin again found himself sidelined for the next five months. He was rewarded for his patience however with a run of six games in the Daggers first team at the end of the 2009–10 season.

After signing for Barnet in the summer of 2010 he was appointed their club captain, and following the sacking of manager Martin Allen during the 2010–11 season he was appointed as caretaker assistant manager under fellow former Gas man Giuliano Grazioli, making him the first British Asian to hold a senior coaching role at a league club. A year later, in January 2012, he and the club mutually agreed to terminate his contract, allowing him to sign for Conference South side Sutton United shortly afterwards. He remained in the Conference South for the 2012–13 season, playing for Eastbourne Borough.
