Rovers booked their place in the third round draw of the FA Cup thanks to a comfortable 6–1 victory over Southern League side AFC Totton in a game screened live on ITV1.

The Pirates stormed into an early lead when Joe Anyinsah, Mustapha Carayol and Danny Woodards all scored in quick succession in the first half with spectacular long-range strikes. After the break Byron Anthony extended the lead to four goals before Nathaniel Sherborne pulled one back for the home side. Eliot Richards rounded things off with a brace late in the game.

There was a brief cameo for Ben Swallow, who was sent off for serious foul play just five minutes after coming on as a sub to make his first appearance for The Gas this season, and midfielder Darren Jefferies was handed his first team debut when he came on for Oliver Norburn after 67 minutes. AFC Totton included former Rovers youth team player Jonathan Davies amongst their starting eleven.
