The number 46 was not used in English league football until the introduction of squad numbers into the club game. This was initially done by the Premier League in 1993, followed by the Football League in 1999.
An unusually high number for a football team, it has only been allocated to a single Rovers player, Rob Holmes, who joined from Kidderminster Harriers in October 2009. The reason for its use was that The Gas had a large squad during the 2009–10 season, and a number of under-18 players were also assigned squad numbers that year, so 46 was the lowest number available when Holmes joined the club.
N.B. stats last updated at the end of the 2012–13 season.
